The Nagual's Dream by rd wraggett (2010)

Composer's Note:

The Nagual's Dream is based on Carlos Casteneda's 'Don Juan' character, the Yaqui Shaman/Nagual. The piece is not programmatic perse but it does try to establish a relationship between the Nagual-Guitar 1 and the "Allies"-Guitars 2&3, which are the spirit assistants of the Shaman. To that end the Guitar 1 part almost always includes a harmonic in every sonority or line, giving an ethereal "aura" to the part. In addition to the guitar trio there is a 'Tape' part which runs throughout. This tape part variously acts as a sonic background for the guitar drama to play over or as a stimulus to push the action ahead. The tape part consists entirely of treated guitar samples, thereby connecting it more "genetically" and sonically with the guitars. This piece was written for the Victoria Guitar Trio.
